Rick Springfield Surprised Me at EPCOT’s Garden Rocks

This past Sunday, I spent a wonderful day at EPCOT in Walt Disney World with my lovely wife. The weather was ideal, and central to our activities was the Garden Rocks Dining Package, featuring dinner at the Rose & Crown Dining Room at the United Kingdom Pavilion and then a concert.

Dinner was excellent, and a full review will be coming soon from Beth Keating.

As for the concert, we saw Rick Springfield. Now, I’ve never been a big Rick Springfield fan. As for my wife, however, her Springfield fandom goes to back high school days, when Rick played Dr. Noah Drake on TV's General Hospital. So, this was a big deal for her. And hey, even I know “Jessie’s Girl.”

Fortunately, I was surprised at how good Springfield was. He certainly was high energy. In fact, the guy is 72 years old, so I want to know what his personal training regime is because he was jumping around on stage, including up and down off speakers as well as hopping on a chair a few feet from my wife, in a way that if I tried the same things, they’d be carting me off to the Disney first aid office. And yes, Rick has a good number of years on me.

Finally, Rick didn’t disappoint closing out the set noting that after all of these years, he still wants his buddy’s girl.

Looking ahead, below is an updated schedule for the Garden Rocks Concert series. Maybe you’ll be pleasantly surprised by an act like I was with Rick.
