Disney will be celebrating its third annual DOLE Whip Day on July 20, and will keep the tasty party going through July 23. Honestly, though, in order to get through all these specialty treats, we’d need at least a month.

Disney explains that this fete takes place the third Thursday of July each year, and it’s “been officially designated as National DOLE Whip Day by Chase’s Calendar of Events – an official compendium of holidays worldwide. Not to mention this year marks the 40th anniversary for DOLE Whip.”
For our family, we’ve always leaned toward the iconic Pineapple DOLE Whip cup, eaten on the sidewalk in Frontierland in Magic Kingdom while waiting for the parade to come through. Though, truth be told, we can also be talked into a DOLE Whip float, or even the DOLE Whip swirled with vanilla ice cream for a change of pace. Once, we even ventured into the DOLE Whip Pineapple Upside Down Cake thingy, but that was just going a bit too far – no one wanted to move in the Florida heat after that overly sweet treat. Some folks like to add a touch of alcohol to their DOLE Whip, but for us, the added price has never really livened up the classic experience, though the Frozcato at Wine Bar George with its pineapple DOLE Whip was a delicious alternative with dinner for our group.
Back in the day, you could only get a DOLE Whip in the classic pineapple flavor, but now there are myriad variations served up for different holidays and celebrations, from coconut, to lime, watermelon, and even chile-mango whip. You might find one themed after a princess or villain for extra fun. There was even an order of DOLE Whip “nachos” at Disney Springs.
And gone are the days when the Magic Kingdom was the only place to get this refreshing treat (at least here on the east coast.) Now, the DOLE Whip and its various iterations are available at certain resort hotels like the Polynesian (love you, Pineapple Lanai!), the Disney Cruise Line, the overseas resorts, and Aulani Resort & Spa. (But really, Aulani is in Hawaii, home of the DOLE Plantation, so that one really makes the most sense!). Some say that there are also DOLE Whip wannabes in certain big box store food courts, masquerading under similar names.
If you are a true DOLE Whip fan, and need the merch to prove it (ahem… note to husband… just sayin’), there is a fabulous “Disney100 Jungle Cruise Dessert Bowl served with DOLE Whip” up for grabs this year on the west coast (please, please bring it to Florida!), or a special tiki mug filled with DOLE Whip, also a west coast only treat. (Insert sad face here!)
For those of you ready to embark on a DOLE Whip adventure this year, Disney has supplied a handy “DOLE Whip Foodie Guide” to help you discover your new favorite DOLE Whip flavor. It includes both the existing DOLE Whip locations, as well as the limited time offerings for this year’s celebration. Oh, what a chore it will be to suss this one out! But eat fast – it’s Florida and it’s summer. That DOLE Whip swirl isn’t going to last.

The Walt Disney Company announced today that the company’s board of directors voted unanimously to extend Bob Iger’s contract as CEO through the end of 2026. That’s a two-year extension on the contract that brought him back to the top spot at Disney.
Mark G. Parker, chairman of The Walt Disney Company, said, “Time and again, Bob has shown an unparalleled ability to successfully transform Disney to drive future growth and financial returns, earning him a reputation as one of the world’s best CEOs. Bob has once again set Disney on the right strategic path for ongoing value creation, and to ensure the successful completion of this transformation while also allowing ample time to position a new CEO for long-term success, the Board determined it is in the best interest of shareholders to extend his tenure, and he has agreed to our request to remain Chief Executive Officer through the end of 2026.”
Iger, of course, returned to the Disney CEO position in November 2022, after Bob Chapek, who was Iger’s handpicked successor, was fired.
Iger said, “Since my return to Disney just seven months ago, I’ve examined virtually every facet of our businesses to fully understand the tremendous opportunities before us, as well as the challenges we’ve been facing from the broader economic environment and the tectonic shifts in our industry. On my first day back, we began making important and sometimes difficult decisions to address some existing structural and efficiency issues, and despite the challenges, I believe Disney’s long-term future is incredibly bright.”
Recently, Disney has had a string of movies that flopped at the box office, in part due to enormous budgets tied to those films. At the same time, the Disney parks had been thriving, though crowds seemed to thin during the July Fourth holiday.
Iger, who is 72, added, “But there is more to accomplish before this transformative work is complete, and because I want to ensure Disney is strongly positioned when my successor takes the helm, I have agreed to the Board’s request to remain CEO for an additional two years. The importance of the succession process cannot be overstated, and as the Board continues to evaluate a highly qualified slate of internal and external candidates, I remain intensely focused on a successful transition.”
Iger has his work cut out for him between now and December 31, 2026, to get Disney back on track. Disney’s stock price basically has been flat year to date, but down from its recent high of $113.21 per share as of early February 2023, and closing today at $90.15.

The Disney culinary team shared the bulk of the menus for the more than two dozen Global Marketplaces for the 2023 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival earlier in the week (see DisneyBiz Journal’s report). But now we also have the menus for the four brand new boothsthat hadn’t been released yet.
While we still don’t have the exact dates the new booths will open (it will be sometime later in the fall), we do know now what goodies they will be offering. In addition, the Hawaii and Noodle Exchange booths will also open later in the festival, on August 15.
The EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival runs from July 27 through November 18, 2023.

Food Items:
• Roasted Porchetta with lemon-parsley salsa verde and shaved fennel salad (New)

It’s quiet over at EPCOT right now. The 2023 Flower & Garden Festival is done, and there are a few leisurely weeks before the 2023 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival kicks off with more than 25 different booths (Global Marketplaces) for your dining pleasure.
At this year’s festival, which runs from July 27 to November 18, guests can take a culinary tour across six continents, and the festival will be bringing back fan-favorite Marketplaces including The Fry Basket and Flavors from Fire, but they’ll also be adding four new Global Marketplaces to commemorate the Disney100 celebration. Char & Chop; Wine & Wedge; Bubbles & Brine; and Swirled Showcase will join the more than two dozen options later in the festival. (Several booths will make their debuts at varying times throughout the season.)
The most anticipated of this year’s food booths is perhaps the “Brew-Wing Lab,” located inside the Odyssey building. In the most recent festival, it was the place to find Figment in all his purple glory. During this festival, however, it will be the spot to not only find some great wings and things, but it will be the temporary home to Muppet Labs! Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his assistant, Beaker, will be offering up their inventions at this “taste-testing headquarters.” Among their “scientific snacks” will be the “Unnecessarily Spicy, Yet Extremely Tasty Scotch Bonnet Pepper-Curry Wings.” Or you can try their Pickle Milkshake. Pretty sure this spot will be the first stop at the festival for many guests, especially for those who love a good Muppets moment!
Also returning to the festival is the Eat to the Beat Concert series, with such acts as Air Supply, Baha Men, MercyMe, 98°, Boyz II Men, Hanson, Billy Ocean, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.
“Remy’s Ratatouille Hide & Squeak” scavenger hunt will have you looking for that adorable Lil’ Chef, while later in the season, “Pluto’s Pumpkin Pursuit” pumpkin-themed scavenger hunt will keep the kiddos busy while you snack.
“Emile’s Fromage Montage” is also a scavenger hunt of sorts. It’s an edible version, where you can eat your way through more than 12 different cheese-centric dishes, and after you’ve collected at least 5 stamps from the featured dishes in your festival passport, you can return to Shimmering Sips Marketplace for a unique specialty item as a reward for your efforts. Just a few of the plates you can sample as part of this adventure are the ever-popular Schinkennudeln: Pasta Gratin with Ham, Onions and Cheese (Germany), Griddled Cheese with Pistachios and Honey (Greece); Warm Raclette Swiss Cheese (The Alps); Canadian Cheddar and Bacon Soup served with a Pretzel Roll (Canada); and Pão de Queijo: Brazilian Cheese Bread (Brazil). You can also try Curry-Spiced Crispy Cheese with Mango-Curry Ketchup (India); or the Passion Fruit Cheesecake with Toasted Macadamia Nuts (Hawaii). Just remember that you don’t have to collect all those stamps in one day!
