Slowly but surely, the Walt Disney World Resorts are beginning to re-emerge from the COVID-19 quarantine shutdown. Disney Springs is already open. Vero Beach, Florida and Hilton Head, South Carolina are opening next week (June 15). Disney Vacation Club properties at Disney World and the Fort Wilderness Campgrounds open June 22. And Disney World parks begin opening July 11.  Now, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin is set to reopen July 29.

The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin is a deluxe hotel complex located in between Epcot and Hollywood Studios. While it is on Disney World property, it is managed by Marriott International, and owned by Tishman Realty & Construction Corporation and Metlife.  Despite the fact that it is operated by an outside company, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin offers on-site guests many of the same perks (when they are in effect) as the main Disney Resort hotels, such as Fastpasses and Extra Magic Hours.  (Sadly, neither of those are currently operational under reopening limitations).

With its lead up to reopening, the Resort is implementing the following policies (from the Swan and Dolphins’ website at https://www.swandolphin.com/importantinfo/index.html):

  • In order to better serve our guests during the temporary closure of Walt Disney World Theme Parks and hotels, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin will close effective Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at 12:00pm EST through July 29, 2020.
  • For guests with existing reservations for any future arrival date, including reservations with pre-paid rates that are typically more restrictive, we will allow full changes or cancellation without a charge up to 24 hours prior to arrival will be allowed, as long as the change or cancellation is made by July 5, 2020. Please note that any changes to existing reservations will be subject to availability and any rate differences.
  • For guests making new reservations for any future arrival date, including reservations with pre-paid rates, between today and July 5, 2020, we will allow the reservation to be changed or cancelled at no charge up to 24 hours before your scheduled arrival date. Please note that changes to the reservation will be subject to availability and any rate differences.

The 87-acre Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin was designed by internationally acclaimed architect Michael Graves, and is known for its giant sculpted swan and dolphin on the roof of each building, as well as its unique, contemporary architecture on the facades of the buildings. The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin has previously been named a Marriott Eastern Region Hotel of the Year (2019).

The resort offers a total of 2,270 guest rooms, with 756 at the Swan, and 1514 at the Dolphin. Five pools (including a waterfall grotto) and several spas and health clubs are available, along with a children’s camp with supervised activities and a miniature golf course.  With 18 different restaurants and lounges, including celebrity chef Todd English’s world famous bluezoo, Shula’s Steak House, and Il Mulino New York Trattoria, the Swan and Dolphin offers guests a wide array of experiences before they ever step foot into one of the theme parks.

The convention facilities at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin also stay pretty busy, and the Resort offers their own spectacular Food and Wine Classic, now in its 11th year, each fall. The 2020 dates, November 6 and 7, were recently released, and tickets have already gone on sale.
