“Dinner and a show” has long held great appeal for me, and that includes the annual Eat to the Beat Concert Series as part of the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival. Interesting food, wine and other drinks, and some good music? Once more, Disney World has grabbed my attention.
The Food & Wine Festival will run from August 29 to November 24 this year, and Disney announced the concert lineup just a few days ago. Here’s the list from Disney Parks Blog:
Are there any “must see” acts on the list for you coming to the America Gardens Theatre stage? I’d like to see Sheila E, Switchfoot, Billy Ocean and Smash Mouth.
As Disney notes, “Beginning July 9, you can secure your spot at the show by reserving an Eat to the Beat Dining Package available Friday-Monday.” Get more information here.

We went to EPCOT recently, using it as our park hopping entry park in order to get in to the Passholder previews at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom. We didn’t need to be at Magic Kingdom until 1:00 p.m. for the virtual queue check in, so we decided to make use of the morning, and maybe grab some lunch at EPCOT before heading to Magic Kingdom.
The thing is, something felt “off” about EPCOT that day. The crowds were lower, there wasn’t as much energy, and the sound levels were even somewhat lower than normal. It was hard to put a finger on why it felt so different than any other summer day.
The park felt empty – more empty than just from the lower crowds. Sure, the construction walls were down, and that opened up a lot of space, and the new CommuniCore Hall was wide open, but it still seemed like more than that.
When we hit World Showcase, the answer became more obvious. The festival booths were closed up and shuttered. The buildings were still there, but the goodies they usually serve up were not being prepared. There were no food lines. There were no bands performing on the America Gardens Theatre stage. And there were no marketplace booths lining the pathways, selling event merchandise. For the first time in a long time, EPCOT was festival-less.
In the early days, there were fairly big breaks between festivals. There were fewer festivals to start out with, and the downtime between kick-offs was lengthy. There was time to eat at sit-down venues for meals, rather than snacking around the festival booths for the day. Over time, Disney added some of our favorite festivals to the lineup, including the Festival of the Arts. Now, there are four annual festivals: Festival of the Arts starts the year, Flower & Garden Festival ushers in the spring weather with fanciful topiaries, Food & Wine is the granddaddy of the festivals, and the Festival of the Holidays brings the Candlelight Processional and sparkling decorations to wrap up the year.
American Pavilion Food Booth During a Previous Festival
The Food & Wine Festival had gotten progressively longer over the years, particularly post-COVID, and had been running into the summer months the past few years. This year, though, Food & Wine returned to its earlier calendar schedule, making its start in a more fall-friendly time slot.
And that leaves the park feeling a bit empty right now without those food booths. Flower & Garden ended on May 27, and this year’s Food & Wine doesn’t start until August 29, thus leaving roughly three months of food-booth-less touring. That’s the way EPCOT used to be when we were traveling with little kids, but it sure feels odd now, when we are used to only a week or two of downtime while Disney switches over from one festival to the next.
The excitement of an ever changing offering of snacks and treats makes the festival repertoire enticing to park guests, and our family, too, looks forward to seeing what new and returning plates are coming with each opening date. But I will admit – it’s been a treat getting back to making actual dining reservations at the EPCOT table restaurants. We’ve revisited a few favorites that we’ve been away from for a while. But it still feels out of the ordinary to have the park as quiet as it is!

A day late, but ahead of schedule? It sounds like an oxymoron, I think.
The last of the four new Global Marketplaces at the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival opened Saturday (September 23, 2023), a day after the other three new booths, but earlier than Disney’s “date to be announced later.” The fourth booth is called “Swirled Showcase,” and it opened in the former Starbucks location at the entrance to World Showcase.
The four new booths will stay open throughout the next festival, the Festival of the Holidays, to give guests more time to try them out. This year’s Food & Wine Festival runs through November 18, while the Festival of the Holidays runs November 24-December 30, 2023.
The three booths which opened on Friday were Wine & Wedge; Char & Chop; and Bubbles & Brine. See our DisneyBizJournal article about their menus here.
The new Swirled Showcase is serving:
Food Items:
• Mickey-shaped Liquid Nitro Cake
• Soft-serve in a Waffle Cone
• Vanilla
• Apple-Cinnamon
• Salted Caramel
• Cream Soda Float with vanilla soft-serve
• Fanta Grape Float with vanilla soft-serve
Beverages:
• Frozen Apple Pie (Non-alcoholic)
• Cinnamon Apple Cider (Non-alcoholic)
• 3 Daughters Toasted Coconut Porter
• 3 Daughters Toasted Coconut Porter Float with salted-caramel soft-serve
• Berry Fizz Fragolino Red Sparkling Wine Float with vanilla soft-serve
The lines at many of the food booths at the Food & Wine festival on Saturday were lengthy, perhaps because of the new 100th Anniversary activities kicking off and the superb Florida weather. Swirled Showcase, offering predominantly ice cream selections, was no exception to the extended lines on its first day.
We, of course, gave it a try. Would we go back? Maybe. (The Mickey-shaped Liquid Nitro Cake sounds interesting.) The ice cream at Swirled Showcase was good quality soft serve, nice on a warm Florida afternoon, but the size of the selection that we ordered was on the small size for the price. (You’d definitely get more bang for your buck at one of the year-round locations.)
Our choice was the Cream Soda Float with Vanilla Soft Serve. It was more of a “sampler size,” just slightly larger than our breakfast juice glasses at home at roughly 4 ½ inches tall. For $6.25, we were expecting a bit larger of a drink. It was good, but gone way too fast. And if you are looking at the photo of the float, yes, it does have a pinkish cast to it, though the flavor was distinctly cream soda.
The drink was exactly what you’d expect from a soda float: a bit fizzy, but otherwise a standard combo of cold soda and delicious vanilla soft serve to scoop up with a spoon. If you’re looking for a cold treat, this is a good one – it’s just going to leave you wishing there was more.

While you have just under four months to explore the various offerings at the two dozen or so food booths at the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival (they’re called Global Marketplaces during this festival), Disney likes to keep it exciting by adding new Marketplaces along the way. To liven things up, there are three new booths opening today (September 22, 2023), and one more coming later with a date to still be announced.
To make things even more interesting, these booths will stay open throughout the next festival, the Festival of the Holidays, giving you an even longer shot at sampling the dishes at these new venues. Or, to come back a second time if you enjoy their special menus. This year’s Food & Wine Festival runs through November 18, while the Festival of the Holidays runs November 24-December 30, 2023.
• Southern Pimento Cheese with bread-and-butter pickled vegetables and grilled bread (Emile’s Fromage Montage)
• Artist Palette of Wine and Cheese: Assorted Artisanal Cheeses paired with Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese, Hartley Apple Brandy, and Florida Orange Groves Winery Black and Blue Port
The Disney culinary team shared the bulk of the menus for the more than two dozen Global Marketplaces for the 2023 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival earlier in the week (see DisneyBiz Journal’s report). But now we also have the menus for the four brand new boothsthat hadn’t been released yet.
While we still don’t have the exact dates the new booths will open (it will be sometime later in the fall), we do know now what goodies they will be offering. In addition, the Hawaii and Noodle Exchange booths will also open later in the festival, on August 15.
The EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival runs from July 27 through November 18, 2023.
Char & Chop
Food Items:
• Roasted Porchetta with lemon-parsley salsa verde and shaved fennel salad (New)
• Grilled IMPOSSIBLE Spicy Sausage with herbed polenta, puttanesca sauce, and ricotta (New)
• Meat Assorti: Trio of shaved meats with baby arugula, pickled mustard seeds, truffle oil, and grilled ciabatta (New)
• Southern Pimento Cheese with bread-and-butter pickled vegetables and grilled bread (New) (Emile’s Fromage Montage)
• Artist Palette of Wine and Cheese: Assorted Artisanal Cheeses and Accoutrements paired with Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese, Hartley Apple Brandy, and Florida Orange Groves Winery Black and Blue Port (New)
It’s quiet over at EPCOT right now. The 2023 Flower & Garden Festival is done, and there are a few leisurely weeks before the 2023 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival kicks off with more than 25 different booths (Global Marketplaces) for your dining pleasure.
At this year’s festival, which runs from July 27 to November 18, guests can take a culinary tour across six continents, and the festival will be bringing back fan-favorite Marketplaces including The Fry Basket and Flavors from Fire, but they’ll also be adding four new Global Marketplaces to commemorate the Disney100 celebration. Char & Chop; Wine & Wedge; Bubbles & Brine; and Swirled Showcase will join the more than two dozen options later in the festival. (Several booths will make their debuts at varying times throughout the season.)
The most anticipated of this year’s food booths is perhaps the “Brew-Wing Lab,” located inside the Odyssey building. In the most recent festival, it was the place to find Figment in all his purple glory. During this festival, however, it will be the spot to not only find some great wings and things, but it will be the temporary home to Muppet Labs! Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his assistant, Beaker, will be offering up their inventions at this “taste-testing headquarters.” Among their “scientific snacks” will be the “Unnecessarily Spicy, Yet Extremely Tasty Scotch Bonnet Pepper-Curry Wings.” Or you can try their Pickle Milkshake. Pretty sure this spot will be the first stop at the festival for many guests, especially for those who love a good Muppets moment!
Also returning to the festival is the Eat to the Beat Concert series, with such acts as Air Supply, Baha Men, MercyMe, 98°, Boyz II Men, Hanson, Billy Ocean, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.
“Remy’s Ratatouille Hide & Squeak” scavenger hunt will have you looking for that adorable Lil’ Chef, while later in the season, “Pluto’s Pumpkin Pursuit” pumpkin-themed scavenger hunt will keep the kiddos busy while you snack.
“Emile’s Fromage Montage” is also a scavenger hunt of sorts. It’s an edible version, where you can eat your way through more than 12 different cheese-centric dishes, and after you’ve collected at least 5 stamps from the featured dishes in your festival passport, you can return to Shimmering Sips Marketplace for a unique specialty item as a reward for your efforts. Just a few of the plates you can sample as part of this adventure are the ever-popular Schinkennudeln: Pasta Gratin with Ham, Onions and Cheese (Germany), Griddled Cheese with Pistachios and Honey (Greece); Warm Raclette Swiss Cheese (The Alps); Canadian Cheddar and Bacon Soup served with a Pretzel Roll (Canada); and Pão de Queijo: Brazilian Cheese Bread (Brazil). You can also try Curry-Spiced Crispy Cheese with Mango-Curry Ketchup (India); or the Passion Fruit Cheesecake with Toasted Macadamia Nuts (Hawaii). Just remember that you don’t have to collect all those stamps in one day!
