In response to guests’ requests that the Disney Genie and Genie+ programs be made easier to use, Disney this spring promised future updates to the system to make the program more user-friendly for guests. While Genie+ has already seen a number of changes along the way since its 2021 introduction, including price variability, guests are hoping to be given a way to plan for Genie+ before they get to Orlando for their vacations. Disney has said that revisions to Genie+ will be coming in 2024.
In the meantime, while we wait to see what those revisions will be, it appears that a “new” development will be arriving for the Disney World program this week. You’ll now be choosing Genie+ based on the specific park you’ll be visiting, rather than as a general purchase. If you are visiting one of the less populated parks for the day, you could be paying a lower rate.
Disney advises, “Beginning June 27, Guests at Walt Disney World Resort will now purchase Disney Genie+ service based on how they want to visit. Guests will be able to select either a single-park option or a multiple-parks option, subject to availability. With this update, prices may now be lower at some Walt Disney World theme parks compared to others.”
Guests using the Genie+ system will now choose a specific park to link their Genie+ purchase to, and will be able to buy single or multi-park options based on whether they’ll be park-hopping or staying put in one park. (Park hopping rules remain in effect.) Guests will see varying prices for the service, depending on which park they choose and park demand for the day, and whether they purchase the single park or multi-park options. As is currently the case, the daily pricing will vary with park demand from day-to-day, and will appear on the My Disney Experience app. You can purchase Genie+ after midnight on the day you plan to visit a park in the My Disney Experience app. Then, after 7 a.m., you can begin selecting the attractions that you’d like to use to “skip the line,” one attraction at a time.
For those not yet familiar with the Genie+ program, it comes in several parts. The Genie program is the free planning tool that lets guests check wait times, and make choices to personalize their itinerary for the day. Genie+ is the upgraded form of the program, where guests can pay to bypass the standby lines on certain rides. Then there’s also the pay-per-ride Individual Lightning Lane – (ILL) option, but you don’t need Genie to purchase the a la carte ILL.
Scott Gustin on Twitter provided the first day example of what the new pricing structure might look like (bearing in mind that pricing changes from day to day with demand pricing). He explained:
As an example, on June 27 prices will be:
Multiple Parks: $27/person
Magic Kingdom: $27/person
Hollywood Studios: $24/person
EPCOT: $18/person
Animal Kingdom: $16/person
