The building boon at Walt Disney
World marches forward.
On October 18, The Walt Disney
Company announced plans for a new nature-inspired, mixed-use resort, which will
be located on the Bay Lake shoreline between Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. It will be a deluxe resort
with more than 900 hotel rooms and Vacation Club villas. The targeted opening date
is 2022.
That brings the Walt Disney World
tally up to more than 1,700 hotel rooms and Vacation Club villas being added.
In 2019, the Coronado Springs resort
is adding 545 hotel rooms and suites in its new 15-story tower. (See a

The Disney Riviera Resort – an
all-Disney Vacation Club property – will feature some 300 units, and is set to
also open in 2019. Disney notes that “this much-anticipated property will
connect to Disney's Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at Epcot
via the Disney Skyliner.”
And of course, a resort connected
and immersed in the new Stars Wars:
Galaxy’s Edge park at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is on its way in late 2019 as
well.
George A. Kalogridis, president of
Walt Disney World Resort, said, “Walt Disney World is in the midst of our most
significant expansion in the last two decades and the combined 1,700 new hotel
rooms and proposed Disney Vacation Club villas we are building at four
different resorts will create thousands of new construction and permanent jobs
and will drive economic opportunity and incremental revenue for Central
Florida. We continue to add new attractions, new lands — and these beautiful
accommodations will be right in the heart of all that magic.”
Now, that’s a building boon.
